I have a contractor who would like to remove glue and adhesives from a concrete floor. He doesn't want to remove a lot of the floor. The floor is rough right now and he isn't concerned with how the floor will look when he is done. What do you recommend? |
Best Recommendation:
Use an EDCO CPM-8 concrete scarifier with carbide cutters to remove about 1/8" of the surface. This will remove the glue as well as leave a textured surface behind. The textured surface will allow whatever material your customer is using to cap the surface to bond to the concrete.
Possible recommendations:
Concrete Grinder with Strip-Serts - The Strip-Serts will give you the best production in removing the excessive material. You should add sand to the adhesive if it is very gummy to prevent it from smearing on the surface. The sand acts like a bond to gummy material which in turn will "ball up" the glue. It is very important that when you use the Strip-Serts to raise the dust shroud of the concrete grinder so that the "balled up" glue can escape out. The only concern is that if the concrete is too rough, any of the leading edges could knock out the Strip-Serts.
Another possible option is to a use a scarifier assembly on a grinder to remove the glue and adhesive. Your production rate will not be as fast as the Strip-Serts, but you should not have any problems with the accessory coming out. Scarifiers do more of a picking action as opposed to a slicing action. You need to do all the same things that you would with the Strip-Serts when using the Scarifier Assemblies (add sand to the surface and raise dust shroud).
You can also follow the prior suggestion of using the ALR-5E with Scraper Blades. But, if you follow any of the grinder or Chisel Scaler options, you will still need to come back with a CPM-8 Scarifier in order to roughen and level the surface so that the contractor can apply the "cap". |

I have trouble getting the drive shaft out of the CPM-8. How can I take it out easier? |
Answer: Apply a form of lubricant or grease.
Tip: As soon as you receive the CPM-8 apply a lubricant to the drive shaft and make sure you lubricate the shaft everytime you pull it out from then on. |
