Since our beginning, when Leo Swan and Ed Harding started EDCO-Equipment Development Company in 1959 on the foundation of their Concrete Grinder, the first obligation has always been to the customer. EDCO evolved around the prioritization of our customer dependent culture. We know that we are nothing without the customer, so we recently visited several long-standing rental customers to get an inside look at their businesses and how mutually advantageous we are to one another.
Best Line Equipment, which has 13 locations across the state of Pennsylvania, was founded in Williamsport, Pennsylvania by Mike Houseknecht in 1985. The family-owned business quickly expanded and continues to service the entire state of Pennsylvania and its surrounding states.
The Pennsylvania-based rental store is a dealer for over 60 major manufacturers including Bobcat, Doosan, JLG, Stihl, and Honda. Among their most rented equipment is boom lifts, telehandlers, excavators, and compact equipment. Best Line Equipment serves the construction, municipal, oil, natural gas, landscape, and homeowner markets.
Despite competing head-to-head with some of the largest businesses in the rental industry, the still family-owned Best Line Equipment remains a market leader in their service area.
“Not only do we invest heavily in our rental fleet, we invest in our employees through training,” Best Line Eastern Regional Manager Mike Tackett said. “Our employees are the reason we are a market leader.”
Understanding that their employees are the facilitators of their operation, Best Line Equipment ensures their staff is prepared to assist their customers. By taking advantage of EDCO’s “Job Site Qualifying Questions” and the EDCOEd online training, the staff is able to determine which machine and accessories will meet the customers’ demands, and how to use them in the most effective way possible.
Best Line Equipment has carried EDCO products for over 20 years and carries approximately 100 pieces of EDCO’s today.
With EDCO products’ sustainability offsetting major maintenance costs, Best Line’s profit margin has benefitted by deriving almost entirely from ensuring the correct machine is being used for the renter’s jobs and charging appropriately for the machine and accessory.
